2/2-way and 3/2-way solenoid valves for automation

Valves are small components used in piping systems. They allow the flow through a line to be interrupted and restored within a very short time. Many valves respond automatically to the pressure conditions within the piping system.

Other versions are operated manually, for example by means of a lever or crank. In many cases, however, electronic flow control is more practical. This is generally achieved using solenoid valves. These are equipped with an electromagnet that opens or closes the passage depending on the applied voltage. This makes operation considerably easier and eliminates the need for someone to be in the immediate vicinity of the valve. In addition, the valves can be connected to a computer program. This makes them ideal for automation, allowing various processes in industrial systems to be controlled automatically.

Applications of Solenoid Valves in Automated Systems

Solenoid valves offer an exceptionally wide range of applications in automation. For example, they can be used in industrial machinery. When a particular material is used in liquid or gaseous form, the valve can control its flow. A machine's control program can open the valve by sending an electrical signal, allowing the relevant material to be dispensed. These products are also suitable for automatically applying lubricants to machinery or carrying out cleaning processes. They can even be used to control fuel delivery in systems with combustion engines. The valves are suitable for water, air and oil. For example, they are used in plant engineering to ensure that all the materials required for production are available. They are also very useful in process engineering. In addition, the valves can be used in pneumatic systems, where they help move individual machine components as required. In almost every area of industry, solenoid valves can help automate various processes. However, these products are not limited to industrial applications: suitable valves can also be used in building services to control cleaning processes or plant irrigation automatically.

Different Designs for a Wide Range of Applications

If you want to buy a solenoid valve for automatic control, you can choose from numerous models. The most important distinguishing feature is the connection size. This should match the piping system in which the valve is to be installed as closely as possible, avoiding the need for reducing fittings or other adapters. You can choose valves with thread sizes of 1/8", 1/4" or 3/8". For larger pipes, we also offer products with diameters of 1/2", 3/4" and 1". This provides a wide range of options for systems of different sizes. Another important distinction is whether the valve is a 2/2-way or a 3/2-way model. The first type has just two connections: an inlet and an outlet. It simply controls the flow from one side to the other. However, some applications require the pressure in the piping system to be released. In these cases, the second type is used. These products have an additional port that can be controlled separately, allowing the piping system to be opened so that pressure can escape into the surrounding environment. These models are primarily used in pneumatic applications. Another distinguishing feature is whether the product is normally closed (NC) or normally open (NO). These terms describe how the valve behaves in its normal state, when no electrical power is applied. This is an important factor in determining how the valve operates. Finally, there are directly operated and pilot-operated models. In the first case, the electromagnet directly lifts the sealing element to allow flow. In the second case, the pressure difference between the two sections of the line helps open the valve. This makes it possible to operate valves with large nominal diameters and suitable for high pressures, even with relatively small solenoids.

Key criteria when selecting a valve:

  • Connection diameter
  • Normally closed (NC) or normally open (NO)
  • Directly operated or pilot-operated
  • 2/2-way or 3/2-way valve
